Senior Associate

The senior associate may serve as a project leader supporting firm projects and providing client counsel as well as develop project deliverables related to firm assignments. The position reports to a firm vice president but involves contact with and work for other colleagues.

Purpose of Role

Major Responsibilities

• Formulate and implement patient and professional group relations strategies consistent with clients’ short- and long-term objectives.
• Serve as project lead on select projects providing counsel and support to clients.
• Monitor a diverse number of tasks, ranging from writing expert presentations to handling logistical arrangements.
• Organize, attend and facilitate project meetings and teleconferences with clients and advocacy partners.
• Develop proposals and budgets. Responsible for negotiating and monitoring large budgets.
• Manage both support and professional staff in developing project deliverables.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of five to seven years’ experience
• Knowledge of patient and professional group relations, medical education, medical marketing, public relations, and corporate affairs.
• Relevant experience with non-profit health associations and a comprehensive understanding of third-party groups.
• Ability to counsel clients and broad range of their constituents.
• Demonstrated experience creating and leading successful, proactive patient and professional relations programs.
• Strong understanding of healthcare, particularly specific therapeutic areas and the role of advocates in drug development and commercialization.
• Exceptional writing and communication skills.
• Excellence in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Awareness of current social, economic, and political issues.
• Additional languages spoken is a plus

Strategic Associate

The strategic associate provides tactical support and strategic guidance as appropriate to both the chief strategic officer and president/CEO primarily in new business development, internal strategic initiatives, thought leadership as well as other projects. The position includes conducting research and developing reports and presentations, attending meetings, tracking and advancing priority projects for the chief strategic officer and president/CEO, and formulating and implementing recommendations for action. The position involves contact with all MK&A associates. Supervision and evaluation are the responsibility of the chief strategic officer.

Purpose of Role

To support the firm’s chief strategic officer (CSO) and the president and chief executive officer (president/CEO) in their leadership roles.

Major Responsibilities

Meeting preparation and participation
• Ensure coordination of scheduling and effort around the non-client facing chief strategic officer and president/CEO’s work and travel with the executive assistant and office manager
• Create objectives and detail outcomes for new business and other non-client meetings and prepare relevant materials including but not limited to agendas, presentations, and reports
• Conduct primary and secondary research and develop reports for chief strategic officer and the president/CEO as required
• Attend meetings with chief strategic officer and president/CEO: take detailed notes, and prepare meeting minutes, reports, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spread sheets, proposals and budgets, thank you notes and other materials as assigned
• Offer ideas about strategy, tactics, business procedures and growth opportunities to the chief strategic officer and the president/CEO and when directed to others
• Chart and ensure on time, rapid delivery of a diverse number of materials

Project coordination and orchestration
• Develop and maintain inventory of critical projects in which the chief strategic officer and president/CEO are interested and involved
• Apprise the chief strategic officer and president/CEO of variations in project schedule or scope
• Act as the chief strategic officer and president/CEO’s deputy with internal and external associates when requested and as directed by them

Communications by the chief strategic officer and president/CEO
• Create inventory of communication opportunities for the chief strategic officer and the president/CEO, including blogs, articles, speeches, panel discussions, etc.
• Develop content for speeches, articles, blogs, Linked In postings, etc.
• Present timely work-in-progress updates

Business development for the chief strategic officer and president/CEO
• Conduct research to identify and/or inform new business opportunities
• Develop materials and strategies for new business meetings led by chief strategic officer or the president/CEO
• Attend new business presentations, take notes, and develop plan for next steps
• Draft and revise related presentations, proposals, correspondence
• Ensure appropriate follow up on new business opportunities identified by the chief strategic officer and president/CEO
• Liase with marketing team and ensure coordination with marketing campaigns and tactics
• Coordinate overall firm process for developing new business

Leadership and delivery of special projects
• Scope, plan and execute multiple, often quick-turnaround internal and external projects with minimal outside assistance
• Present results to the chief strategic officer and the president/CEO and when requested to other internal and external audiences
• Oversee transfer of projects to other associates as needed

The strategic associate will be assigned other responsibilities as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Minimum two-year commitment to the position that would prepare the incumbent for a more senior role at MK&A

• Good sense of self and strong personal presence
• Willingness to work hard and take direction but also creatively solve problems for which the answers aren’t always obvious
• Up to 40 percent travel including some on nights and weekends

Associate I

The Associate I serves as the firm’s primary researcher and supports project leaders in project planning and execution.

Purpose of Role

Major Responsibilities

• Assists project leaders with information gathering, and presentation and material development to provide clients with specified deliverables. Tasks include:
o Routinely performs internet searches and secondary research to gather background information on pipeline and approved treatments, therapeutic areas, and disease conditions for new business pitches and client projects.
o Coordinates logistics for conferences, client events, and firm under the supervision of a project lead.
o Develops materials such as Q&As, fact sheets, post-meeting evaluation surveys, and other materials as requested by clients or determined in the scope of work outlined in a proposal.
o Assists in developing project proposals and budgets.
o Drafts and edits content for patient educational materials and newsletter articles.
• Handles meeting follow-up details, such as drafting thank you notes, assembling meeting evaluations, and gathering of out-of-pocket expenses.
• Researches, coordinates, and manages translators and translation for projects involving interviews with non-English speaking people
• Develops organizational profiles of patient and professional organizations, and biographic profiles of advocacy group representatives and key opinion leaders.
• Participates in client teleconferences, meetings, and off-site events to take notes and present research.
• Manages printers, designers and other vendors.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• College graduate with minimum of one year work experience in an office setting or combination of work experience and relevant internships
• Strong interest in/understanding of healthcare
• Strong written, oral communication and research skills
• Competence in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must be a self-starter able to work independently and under pressure, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and exercise judgment and discretion. Capable of prioritizing assignments and working with time-sensitive and confidential material.
• Any additional languages spoken are a plus
• Event planning experience a plus

Associate II

The Associate II supports project leaders in project planning and execution.

Purpose of Role

Major Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the project lead:
o Provide project support including writing reports, preparing materials for workshops, writing emails, and presenting to internal client teams.
o Formulating and implementing patient and professional group strategies consistent with the client’s short-and long-term objectives.
o Develop proposals and budgets.
o Participate in developing counsel to clients on pressing issues.
o Represent clients’ needs to targeted patient and professional groups through meetings, teleconferences, and correspondence, as assigned.
o May communicate with clients to present and discuss results, understand company needs and offer counsel and direction.
• Develop relationships with members of client teams.
• Organize, attend, and participate in client team meetings and presentations.
• Serve as a resource to the firm on specialized medical and/or scientific information, as needed.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• College graduate with minimum of two to three years’ experience in an office setting. Master’s degree preferred.
• Knowledge of patient and professional group relations. Additional knowledge of medical education, medical marketing, public relations, and public affairs is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical science and the regulatory approval process of pharmaceutical products.
• Relevant experience with non-profit health associations and an understanding of third-party groups.
• Exceptional verbal and writing skills.
• Excellence in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency in internet research, including major search engines.

Executive Assistant

The executive assistant primary role is to support the firm’s president by ensuring that the schedule is properly maintained and that appointments and travel are scheduled in a timely and efficient manner.

Purpose of Role

Major Responsibilities

• Maintain the firm president’s calendar including scheduling of meetings around the world, teleconferences with multiple parties, internal meetings, webinars and other appointments.
• Liaise with firm associates, clients and contacts via phone and e-mail to make and confirm meeting arrangements.
• Create and revise itineraries for the firm’s president.
• Coordinate travel arrangements through both a travel agent and web resources.
• Prepare meeting materials, including PowerPoint presentations, spread sheets, and narrative reports.
• Perform various administrative duties, including drafting and processing correspondence, faxing, filing, photocopying, transcribing meeting notes, handling incoming and outgoing mail.
• Answer/screen incoming telephone calls; relay information and take accurate messages.
• Assure appropriate records retention in line with firm policy.
• Process president’s expense report and submit to finance department.
• Submit expense reports for products and services purchased for the firm.
• Serve as firm’s liaison with select service vendors, including negotiating contracts in cooperation with the finance and accounting department
• Perform other duties as assigned by the president and vice presidents.

Minimum Qualifications

• Six to 10 years’ experience in a similar position
• Extensive experience in making and revising travel arrangements including heavy global calendar management
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Effective listening, interpersonal and writing skills
• Tact and diplomacy, especially when working with demanding clients
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Advanced use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
• Attention to detail
